A previously unknown painting by Johannes Vermeer?
Maybe not, but in this artwork women of Johannes Vermeer’s paintings from the 17th century have gathered together to sit, chat, and enjoy a little wine. Yes, the water jug is now filled with red wine and one of the maidens is tired after a hard day and falls asleep. The timing and composition for a moment could have been better, but it was difficult to keep the women in place to capture this never before seen moment in history.
A total of seven Johannes / Jan Vermeer paintings are used in the art adaptation:
- The Girl with the Wine Glass (c. 1659), Dame en twee heren.
- Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665), Meisje met de parel.
- Christ in the House of Martha and Mary (1655), Christus in het huis van Martha en Maria.
- A Girl Asleep (1657), Slapend meisje.
- Woman with a Water Jug/ Pitcher (1662), Vrouw met waterkan.
- Lady Standing at a Virginal, Staande virginaalspeelster (c. 1670-1673).
- The Lacemaker (c. 1669-1671), De kantwerkster.
